About
Oh, hey, you're one of those people (like me) who likes to know a little more about who they're buying from, right?
I totally get it, I have a natural curiosity about people, especially when it comes to purchasing online - so let me tell you a bit about myself. I've always been an arts n' crafty person, right back to when I was a kid. I got introduced to crochet when I was about 8yrs old. It was primary school and the boys went off to play football, whilst the girls got to choose between sewing or crochet (yeah, it was very un-PC back then).
I opted for crochet and whilst I haven't crocheted religiously for all my life, it's something that I dip in and out of - at which point, for however many months, it becomes all-consuming (that's the ADHD side of me).
I estimate that I have about 47,564 WIPs and probably enough yarn to start a small store. Of course, this doesn't deter me from starting something new or buying more yarn - I'm sure you get that.
Anyway, in addition to crochet, I also loved art, at one point I was a full-time artist painting pet portraits. Weirdly, I couldn't ever bring myself to say the words 'I'm an artist' if anyone asked me what I did for a living - it just felt really wanky (I swear a lot too). Also, I didn't really enjoy it too much - found it all a bit limiting on the creative side and my ADHD brain was not happy with the whole 'deadline' thing.
I also helped people (predominantly 'work from home mums' ) to set up their online eCommerce businesses. This was often handmade crafts and before the rise of marketplaces like Etsy. I kinda liked doing the websites and graphics and seeing people succeed.
Anyway, I was looking for a funny, crochet themed t-shirt or mug for a friend and couldn't quite find what I was after. There were lots of 'hooker' related tees and mugs (you'll find some around here too) but nothing that was quite up my alley.
In the end, I designed a t-shirt for her and had it printed, and thus began the beginning of this journey. She loved it, I love designing and crochet (my daughter is the knitter) so I figured, why not combine all the things I've enjoyed doing over the years and see if anyone else likes it too.
I fancy I won't retire on the profits, but I hope it brings a smile to yours or your recipients face.
With regards to the products, I like the idea of ethically sourced goods that are kind to our environment, so it took me a good while to decide on a supplier who ticks those boxes. The t-shirts are good quality and made in the UK, with all off-cuts being recycled. Packaging is also recyclable too *polishes her halo.
If you buy from me, you're supporting an independent small business owner, who creates products with 100% unique designs that you won't find anywhere else (if you do, let me know as they've ripped off one of my designs).
If you'd like to get to know me further, feel free to connect with me on the socials - you can find me over on Instagram under Yarn Rebels UK and over on the Facebook too. And if you fancy an update every now and then, subscribe to my newsletter. It will likely be a mix of yarn love, new products, discounts and the odd rant.
Much love,
Nikki
